What to do in Jakarta, Indonesia?

Things to do in Jakarta,Indonesia at the time of traveling to Jakarta, lita can visit several tourist destinations that may not have ever seen before in other continents.

Some tourist destinations which can be visited, among others:

  1. Visit TMII – Taman Mini Indonesia Indah

TMII (literary translated as Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park) Jakarta is located in the eastern part of the city and is a very interesting place to visit to learn Indonesian culture. This place is practically a miniature of Indonesia. Although I personally found that riding a cable car in TMII is quite scary, the scenery that can be seen from above is quite rewarding. We could see the pool with a decorative map of Indonesia. Besides the pavilions of each province of Indonesia there are also many museums in the TMII area worth visiting.

  1. Monas – The National Monument

As an icon of the city and a symbol of the struggle of Indonesia, Monas is a place worth visiting. In addition to the monument, you can also find The National History Museum in the area around Monas. In this museum there are many dioramas depicting the history of Indonesia. In addition to learning about the history of Indonesia, it is quite interesting to take pictures with Monas as a background. Be creative and make your own unique picture!

The monument and the museum are located in central Jakarta. They are open daily from 08.00 – 15.00 throughout the week except the last Monday of each month. The best time to visit Monas is in the evening just before the sunset.

  1. Go to the beach – Ancol

Honestly, to this day I do not understand why we have to pay for the beach in Jakarta. Supposedly the beach is a public place that is free for everyone to visit! Well anyway, let’s not focus on that thing. Ancol is a beach park, one area with Dufan, the amusement park. Please, do not imagine a beach with white sand and clear water. Sorry to say, but Ancol is quite a dirty beach. Ancol beach could be an option if you want to enjoy the sunset while sitting in a cafe after visiting Dufan. If you love photography, photographing around Ancol is quite exciting as well.

  1. Amusement Park – Dufan

Dufan or Dunia Fantasi is one big complex with the beach that I’ve talked about earlier. This is the biggest amusement park in Indonesia (probably? There is also Trans Studio Makassar and Bandung too, I have never been there so I am not really sure). Playing around for a full day in Dufan is like a short getaway from the busyness of Jakarta. I can tell that going to Dufan for some Indonesians who live on another island than Java is like a dream come true. As for me, spending one day with a bunch of friends in Dufan is definitely going to be a super fun day! Don’t go there on the weekend since it will be ridiculously busy.

  1. The Istiqlal Mosque and The Catholic Cathedral

Istiqlal is the largest mosque in Indonesia, and also claimed to be the largest in Southeast Asia. The Cathedral is located across the road from the Istiqlal Mosque, an amazing building with neo-gothic style. Both buildings offer beautiful and charming architecture. You could say it’s like the Taj Mahal stands opposite the Sagrada Familia. Many say that these buildings are evidence of the tolerance and harmony that is something to be achieved in this life

  1. Stroll Jalan Surabaya

A big fan of antique stuff? You should spare one evening to walk down Surabaya street. You can find a lot of stores that mostly sells antiques, but please be careful when you decide to buy something from here. Not all things that seems antique are antique, some of them are newly produced as antiques.

  1. Visit The Old Town, Sunda Kelapa Harbour and Cafe Batavia

Old Town or Old Batavia has a very strong historical value, but it is unfortunate that most of the buildings in the Old Town are not well preserved. Around the Old Town, there are several interesting museums to visit. The Jakarta History Museum (Fatahillah Museum), Museum of Fine Art and Ceramic as well as the Puppet Museum are all around Batavia. Usually, local people explore around the area of the old town by renting an old-fashioned bike (it cost around $3). You can cycle around the area to the Sunda Kelapa harbour. Afterwards you can relax, eat and drink at Cafe Batavia. A restaurant that serves good coffee and has an interesting design.

  1. Try as many cafe / restaurants as you can

Yup, there are so many cafe, restaurants, bars in Jakarta. If you feel like you don’t want to eat any Indonesian food then you can find a lot of variety in Jakarta. Indian food, Greek food, Italian food, Lebanese food and much more. If you want to eat Indonesian food in a great restaurant with a nice ambiance I would recommend my favorite: Lara Djongrang Restaurant (Cik Di Tiro street No. 4 Menteng). Need one calm day to write emails or probably write an article for your own blog? Here are my suggestion for a good, comfortable cafe with free wifi and nice drinks/food.

  1. If it is Sunday, do the car free day

If you’re in Jakarta on Sunday, then I suggest you try a bit of exercise (or it could be just a walk) on Car Free Day (CFD) in Sudirman-Thamrin street. It starts at 6 am and lasts till 12 noon. It feels so amazing to experience and see the main road (Sudirman and Thamrin) without any vehicles. Many communities also gather there and you have the opportunity to see almost all the communities in Jakarta on one morning.

  1. Chill out in a park

Although there are many skyscrapers in Jakarta, the city also has several city parks. Two of my favorites are Lembang Park and Suropati Park. Sometimes, in the early morning or late afternoon, you can find local people jogging around the park. Oh, there is a community that is trying to turn city parks into popular public spaces and create new experience in interaction with others. At the same time, they aim to make people in the city have a sense of belonging. They have an interesting concept to show people the cities parks and get together. To find out more follow them on twitter: @HiddenParkID

  1. Enjoy the nightlife

Jakarta is often called the “city that never sleeps.” Jakarta has a charm of its own in the evening. The cities skyline with millions of lights looks beautiful and the nightclubs and bars are always busy. I have written a post about where to go to experience nightlife in Jakarta,

  1. Try various public transportation

You want to really feel like a real local, then try the public transport. Trans Jakarta bus, taxi, metromini, mikrolet, motorbike taxi (or we call it Ojek), bajaj, and much more. This is probably the best things to do in Jakarta. Note: You need to bargain for bajaj and ojek, they sometimes give foreigners a quite funny price! Try public transport in Jakarta and melt in with the traffic. Get desperate and frustrated (or probably Enjoy it?)! I won’t guarantee this will be a pleasant experience, but you certainly can learn about what it feels like to live in Jakarta. It is going to be very valuable, right? If the traffic is really bad and you can’t stand it, then just walk and you might get a different experience.

  1. Visit various museums, including my favourite the Kite museum

Besides the National History museum, all the museum in TMII area and all the museum in Old Town, Jakarta still has a lot more museums to see! There is the Jakarta Textile museum, Bank Indonesia museum, Proclamation museum, Maritime museum and my favourite the Kite Museum. So what are you waiting for?

  1. Visit the tourist attraction near Jakarta
can not stand the traffic congestion in Jakarta and want to ‘escape’ for 1-3 days of a city? Here is what the locals usually do: we often visit the Thousand Islands. Thousand Islands are a chain of islands in the north coast of Jakarta. There are so many islands that you can explore with a 1-3 hour trip by boat from Ancol (Marina port) or a port of Muara Angke.
    14. Going to the mall
How many malls in Jakarta? The answer is “too much”! Hahaha .. Ok, this may sound a bit strange idea to you, but believe me if you want to have a relaxing day, find a grocery, maybe do some shopping or bowling, why not go to the mall? There is one store in Grand Indonesia Mall, called Alun-Alun Indonesia where you can easily find some souvenirs for family or friends back home that actually Indonesia (I assume Alun-Alun Indonesia is quite expensive, but some things are ok to buy). If you want something cheaper, you should try the ITC, the city Thamrin, Tanah Abang (Note: I really want to shop for a lot of different fabrics in Tanah Abang This is an incredible bargain.), And traditional markets all over Jakarta.

a place that has its own challenges for us and maybe for some people who want to enjoy their leisure time and maybe Things to do in Jakarta,Indonesia. in here

Staying Healthy Whereas Traveling

On this topic, I will be focusing on traveling by air.

The constant flyer, who tours totally different countries, across totally different time zones is long-faced with lots of stressors which can contribute to the degradation of the best health standing. An unobserved and unsuspected lenience on traveling across time zones may also result in affected psycho-social behavior due to the new places and environmental catalysts that are bombarded on the various senses of the body. Staying healthy whereas traveling could be a key issue wherein the individual ought to maintain a high state of wellness to forestall complications towards diseases after his/her trip.

Jet lag Blues

The most common impact of constant traveling across different time zones is that of jet lag. Jet lag is outlined as the feeling of a person getting similar symptoms like extreme tiredness, lack of sleep, and general moodiness caused by a tired mind. The new environment and therefore, the new culture, furthermore because the new body clock system could distort the traditional time for rest of an individual. This is able to cause consistent stress on the body functions, ensuing to an inefficient output of energy by the various organs that are dependent on round the clock settings.

Jet lag is usually completely established some days at max by an individual, till such time, that internal equilibrium is achieved by manually adjusting sleep and dietary patterns with the new place.

Dehydration is one in all the most offender

Another reason that causes discomfort on an individual such as headaches and nausea is caused by fluid deficiency during the flight. Though the person has not done any strenuous work within the plane, just the period of the flight is enough to rob the human body of enough water and fluids to keep up enough hydration. what is more, the various pressure changes happening to the interior cabin additionally have an effect on the body functions and metabolic speeds, and so the consumption of fluids within the body.

It is advisable to drink perpetually throughout the flight with clear water to stay the body hydrous and supplied. As dehydration sets in, the flow of blood is slowed down. This blood is important to hold oxygen to the various components of the body, particularly to the brain. a scarcity of oxygen provide would result thus in an additional irritable temperament, and additionally asleep-feeling attributable to the shortage of oxygen and increase of carbon dioxide instead.

Sleep, Sleep, And Sleep

One of the foremost effective ways in which to combat the results of traveling like jet lag and disorientation is to sleep well before the flight, throughout the flight, and after the flight. it’s additionally advisable to order this sleeping habit and begin with the work itinerary on the succeeding days. During this manner, the traveler is not subjected to stressors which will add up to the adjustment amount and disorientation of the self due to the new atmosphere.

Many would say that an excessive amount of sleep might not serve the individual sensible. However, the additional sleep and fuller rest of the person, the higher possibilities that he would be ready to assume and performance efficiently as shortly as he’s able to work or perform the itinerary for the day.

Take Walks

During the long flights, take hourly walks along the aisle for better circulation. This helps avoid the chance of developing leg clots or deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Eat less

Avoid heavy meals as this can lead to stomach discomfort.

Staying healthy whereas traveling could be an intimidating task to look after and maintain as there’s virtually no guarantee that jet lag wouldn’t occur to some minor extent at least. even so, interference and heightening of its life to inhibit its manifestation on travelers is important for health reasons. Thank you for reading.

Fantastic Grand Canyon Trips Start with Maverick Helicopters

There are several tour companies that offer helicopter flights over the Grand Canyon. However, if you want to ensure you have a great experience and a comfortable flight, then you should fly on Maverick choppers. They offer some of the best tours around.

Maverick’s South Rim helicopter rides take off from Tusayan, Arizona. Flights over the West Rim take off from Vegas. Vegas helicopters do not fly all the way to the South Rim. However, you can book a tour package with Maverick that includes an airplane flight from Las Vegas to the South Rim where you can then transfer to a helicopter to tour the rim. It only takes an airplane a little more than 45 minutes to fly from Vegas to the South Rim. The only other way to get from Vegas to Tusayan is by ground, and that is a 5 1/2 hour bus ride each way! You’ll save a lot of time by booking one of Maverick’s airplane combo tour packages.

Vegas Flights

The helicopters used for West Rim tours depart from a couple of locations in Vegas. The departure point is determined by the tour package you book, but you’ll either take off right from the Vegas Strip or you’ll take off from the Henderson Executive Airport. Even Henderson is only 15 minutes from all the big Strip hotels. This is a huge advantage, especially when you consider that most of the other tour operators fly out of Boulder City Municipal Airport. It’s a 40 minute ride to get to Boulder City from Vegas.

Maverick is also the tour operator with the most EcoStar 130 choppers. They’re superb and specifically designed for sightseeing. The cabin has more room than traditional helicopters, and the windshield wraps around the aircraft for spectacular views. The best part is the seats are arranged in stadium style, so no one has a bad seat with a poor view.

When you book a helicopter tour out of Vegas, you can choose an air-only tour or one that lands at the canyon. Creativity in its tours is what sets Maverick Helicopters apart from its competitors. For instance, you can add on an aerial tour of the Vegas Strip, a view of the Valley of Fire, and a fun champagne picnic at the bottom of the canyon (choppers can fly down to the canyon floor at the West Rim but not at the South Rim).

Touring The South Rim

The Maverick tours that fly over the South Rim are thirty or fifty minutes long. If you’re short on time, you’ll see a lot on the shorter tour, but the longer one is best if you can swing it. You’ll get to cover a lot more ground when you book the longer tour and that means you’ll see a lot more beautiful sights.

Maverick tours are all-inclusive, so they come with transportation to and from your hotel, lunch with the landing tours, a tour guide, and all fees and taxes. I love these all-inclusive tours because I don’t need to do any planning – everything’s taken care of.

Maverick isn’t the cheapest choice you could make, but I think it’s the best. You’ll have a superior experience, so the money is well spent. And, if you book your flight directly on the company’s website, you’ll get a great deal. The Internet rate you get when you book online is usually a lot cheaper than the retail price you pay elsewhere.

Final Tip

You should book your Grand Canyon tour in advance. A lot of travelers are interested in 5-star luxury helicopter tours and most of Maverick’s flights sell out pretty quickly. Avoid booking your flight the same day if at all possible. If you can find an open seat, you’ll have to pay much more, just like you would if you booked a commercial airline flight at the last minute.

Top Cities in the U.S. for Performance Tours: NYC, Washington D.C. & Orlando

High school bands, orchestras, ensembles, choirs and other student performance groups generally tour cities where they may perform in a public venue. When arranging a band trip, I often recommend specific cities where musicians are encouraged to perform in some of the most visible public venues. Performance groups often travel to: New York City, Washington D.C., Orlando when traveling on the East Coast of the United States. Philadelphia and Atlanta are also popular choices for performing groups, however this piece will not offer an overview of these two cities.

I have selected the most current and popular performance venues in these cities. Adjudicated performance dates and parades for marching bands in these selected locations are also noted. Working with a student travel company with experience in performance is a must for a successful trip. Whatever need a performance group may have may be planned and adjusted by a professional. Band, orchestra and choir leaders can focus on preparing the group for performance through rehearsals, while the educational travel expert takes care of all of the necessary details for the trip.

New York City
Since many performing artists aspire to work on Broadway or in television or film, New York City is a premiere destination for student groups. Some of the most highly respected performance venues are located in New York City and available for booking public performances: the Statue of Liberty, the United Nations building and Lincoln Center are all popular choices for bands, orchestras and ensembles. Choir directors may also select The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine. For performance groups that require adjudication (formal judging) the season for this type of festival runs from March 12-June 4.

Washington D.C.
Band trips headed to Washington D.C. will find a plethora of choices for performance venues. These include: The White House Ellipse, the Jefferson Memorial, the Washington Monument, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Union Station, the U.S. Navy Memorial, the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall. For more information about adjudicated festivals in Washington D.C. contact a student travel company experienced in performance booking. For bandleaders interested in participating in parades in Washington D.C., consider the National Cherry Blossom Festival or the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. Both occur in early spring – a great time to travel to Washington D.C.

Orlando, Florida is an excellent destination for a student performance group. Universal Studios Florida provides the Star Performance Program for concert bands, marching bands, show choirs, dance teams and other performance groups. Student groups may perform at one of the five themed islands at Universal Islands of Adventure.

In Disney World, student bands, choirs, orchestras and ensembles as well as dance troupes have a variety of choices, too. Here they may play publicly at: Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT Center, the Disney-Hollywood Studios Theme Park and the Disney Village Marketplace.

For marching bands, Disney provides several different parades in their parks. Band trips can join the parade at Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot Center and Disney-Hollywood Studios Theme Park. Marching bands may also end up on stage after a parade for a ‘stand-up’ concert.

For band leaders, choir leaders and music teachers, having the band perform to a new public audience is a large part of the reason for traveling. Students are introduced to new cities and travel experiences with fellow musicians. They rehearse more vigorously for these performances, and learn to set-up and break down a performance in an environment outside of school. In some cases, where time and budget allow for it, an educational travel company may even be able to schedule master classes with professional musicians in conjunction with the tour.

To schedule a band trip or performance tour, email or visit for more information.

5 Tips for Driving a Rental Car in Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos, Mexico is a tranquil, laid back beach town on the Yucatan Peninsula, and makes the perfect home base for a vacation in the Riviera Maya. Having a rental car in Puerto Morelos is a great decision for most people, since it gives you the freedom to jet off to Cancun or Playa del Carmen for a day whenever you feel like it, or explore the many amazing ruins and natural wonders at your own pace.

Driving a rental car in Puerto Morelos and the surrounding areas isn’t much different from driving in the US – the Yucatan is one of the safest places to drive in the country and the main roads are generally well-maintained. However, there are some tips that travelers should follow when driving a rental car in Puerto Morelos in order to have the best vacation possible.

Tips for rental cars in Puerto Morelos

1. Get CDW/LDW coverage from your credit card company
Collision Damage Waiver/Loss Damage Waiver is a pseudo-insurance policy that covers damage to the rental car itself (which is not covered in the mandatory Liability Insurance). Most major credit cards offer a certain amount of CDW/LDW coverage for free as long as you use it to make the reservation and pay for it. To get it from your credit card, you must decline that coverage from the rental car agency in Puerto Morelos. Car rental companies will offer this protection for an extra fee, but it usually includes a deductible of 10-20% of the vehicle’s replacement cost.

2. Keep a copy of your rental car insurance in the glove box
Always, always, always have a copy of your Mexican Liability Insurance, CDW coverage and your car and health insurance policies from back home, just in case. The most important is the Liability Insurance – if you’re in an accident and can’t prove that you have enough insurance to cover the damages, you could find yourself waiting in a Mexican jail while the police figure out who was at fault and how much coverage you have.

3. Gas stations in Mexico are state-owned
There is only one chain of gas stations in Mexico, Pemex, and the prices are the same everywhere in the country. Be aware that most gas stations will only accept cash, and there may be very few gas stations on some long stretches of highway. For example, the toll road to Chichen Itza has few exits and few gas stations, so plan accordingly.

4. Watch out for potholes on smaller roads
The major and secondary highways in Riviera Maya and the roads in the city of Puerto Morelos are in pretty good shape. But be careful with rural highways, side roads, and pulling off onto shoulders – you might get an unpleasant surprise from a pothole. Potholes are actually the main reason people in Puerto Morelos don’t recommend driving at night.

5. Map your route ahead of time
The Mexican government has an app called Mappir that not only helps you plan a route from Point A to Point B, it will also estimate how much fuel it will take and what the costs of the route are (fuel, tolls, etc.). For example, it Mappir suggests 2 possible routes from Puerto Morelos to Chichen Itza: one has tolls, with a total cost of 697 pesos but only takes 3 hr 45 min; the second has no tolls with a total cost of 424 pesos but takes 4 hr 25 min.

Camping Trips to Remember and What to Know About Them

Camping can be a rejuvenating getaway for the whole family. If you prepare and plan before your departure, your whole family will enjoy what nature has to offer.

Camping trips provide a great temporary escape from the stresses and dangers of suburban and urban life. However, the camping experience is fraught with its own set of dangers. The wise camper must take these into account and prepare in advance how to make safety in the woods a high priority and counter the inherent risks.

For example, packing an emergency bag full of safety and survival gear such as a car escape tool, swiss-army-like multitools, emergency radios, first aid supplies, cell phone chargers, solor emergency lights, and so forth is the first thing to consider. Proper lighting is also a must. With the right lantern or flood light you have the ability to see everything that is going on around you.

Most campgrounds provide electric service at each lot. Don’t forget to bring your extension cord.

With security and emergency preparedness plans in place the fun part can begin – preparing to have fun! Camping is a fun activity and you can have a great time arranging a camping trip with your friends or family, only if you have a little information on how you can make your camping trip safe and comfortable.

Camping is something that the majority people like to do with one another even if all you do is pitch a tent in the yard. Camping trips for most people means a tent and sleeping in a bag on the ground. If that does not really appeal to you, then camping in an RV is what you need. It is the ultimate camping adventure. More on that later.

An air mattress provides a bed as comfortable as yours at home. A portable air pump will have it at your desired firmness in a jiffy. Hammocks and cots also provide a restful night.

To be comfortable, plan on bringing plenty of blankets or a high quality sleeping bag. Even in the hottest summer days, tent camping is always cold. When camping during colder months, exponent tents and sleeping bags will keep you warm even in fridged temperatures.

Tents have a come a long way since I started camping some thirty years ago. Today they are well water proofed, have great ventilation while simultaneously keeping some warmth in. They have all kinds of creative extras, such as pockets for your keys and other things you like to keep nearby, and zippered openings where you can keep a cooler so you can grab that cold drink or water without having to leave the tent.

Even though tent camping is one of the most common camping adventures, in recent years RV camping has had a serious jump in popularity. While RV camping may seem more comfy and convenient, tent camping is for those hearty souls who want to dance in tune with nature.

Tent camping requires you to pare down on equipment, food, clothing and the extraneous junk of modern life. Basically you set up a tent on the ground, and that is where you will sleep. When camping in a tent, you must prepare for dew to settle on things indside and outside of your tent. To prevent wet bedding, place a tarp under the tent and keep a box fan inside the tent.

If the idea of camping in a tent is not attractive to you and you don’t own a RV, some campgrounds rent cabins and campers at a decent price. Be prepared to bring along your own blankets, sheets, pillows, and bath towels. Most campgrounds don’t accomodate with more than a few pieces of furniture, bathroom supplies, and a tiny kitchen with limited dishes and cooking utinsils. Fireplaces are available in some cabins. If you are wanting to rent a cabin or RV, reservations are sometimes required several months in advance.

If you want to invest in something even more advanced, they have tents now that are like houses, called cabin tents. In there they have heaters, fireplaces and some come even with full blow kitchens. However, at what point is it no longer camping right?

Final Tips:

As you organize your camping equipment before heading out, be sure to use the vacuum food sealer to seal matches, clothing and other items that must be kept dry. It seems like a crazy idea, but a vacuum food sealer can keep matches, which are critical for lighting the evening campfire, dry and safe. Clothing, bedding, and towels can be placed in the large sized bags and vacuumed to make them compact and easy to transport. The bags can be saved for later use.

If you are new to camping or are thinking about taking up this activity then I say what took you so long? Camping is an excellent way to enjoy God’s creation and everything the environment has to offer. The best part is there are many types of camping and there is certainly one that fits your preferences and needs. In future articles we will explore just how much fun these adventures can be.

Make Your Camping Trip Go Off Without A Hitch

When packing for your camping trip, do not forget chairs and a radio. One of the best parts of camping is sitting around the campfire. You could sit on an old log, but why bother when you can pack chairs and be comfortable. The radio is for entertainment sitting around the fire. An even better idea is to bring your guitar for a sing along.

Navigation is the key when it comes to camping. It is important to know where you are, and how to get back to civilization if you become lost. Always bring a map of the area, and a compass to help you. You can also use an outdoor GPS that will give you navigation information, as well as additional information such as altitude.

Pack a few shovels if there are children with you on your trip. Kids love nothing better than digging in the dirt, and having the right accessories is crucial. If you have room, bring a bucket too. The children will happily entertain themselves in the dirt while you unpack, set up camp and do everything that you need to do.

Take only photos and leave only footprints. That is the rule of thumb when camping. Only use the natural resources that you need and do not leave any traces that you were camping when you leave. Pick up all trash, extinguish and cover any fire pits, bury all human waste, and make the area where you camped look exactly as it did when you found it.

Make sure that you both carry a survival kit and then get in the habit of always having it with you. Things to include in your survival pack are a knife, matches that are waterproof, first aid kit, flares and tablets to purify water. This kit can keep you alive! If you don’t take it with you on excursions it will serve you no good.

Bring supplies for ‘Smores. ‘Smores are an integral part of any camping trip. Simply pack graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. Toast the marshmallows, then make it the filling to a graham cracker/chocolate sandwich. When you have a ‘Smore, you will want ‘some more’–bring enough for everyone to have at least two of them!

While camping, cook easy dinners like “hobo stew”. Simply bring potatoes, ground meat, and veggies. Cut the veggies and potatoes at your campsite. Using tinfoil like a bowl, put the ingredients inside and fold the foil over until the food is covered. Place foil on hot rocks or the coals of the campfire, and eventually you will have a tasty “stew”.

Unless you are going to be spending a significant amount of time camping, buying expensive sleeping bags is really unnecessary. Even if your old and musty sleeping bag is rated for below freezing temperatures, it is excellent padding for the ground even when it is hot outside and you will feel comfortable sleeping on it.

Things You must Have

Take along plenty of drinking water. You need to stay hydrated, and you will need the water to prepare your food. Depending on the nature of your camping trip, this water may also be needed for clean-up and washing of the hands. It is better to bring along more than you need than not enough.

Keep a close eye on your dog while you are camping and always keep him on a leash. There are those who fear dogs. This will maximize the respect that you have for others while camping. Also, your pet could be destructive to other people’s belongings.

It is important to have a flashlight when you camp, but make sure the batteries are fully charged. One way to be sure the batteries don’t accidentally drain on the journey is to put them into the flashlight backwards. That way if the switch is accidentally engaged, they stay charged. Plus, you know where the batteries are.

Many people will tell you that they have fond memories of camping. The information provided here should help make it so that you have a memorable trip as well, as long as you keep the information in mind. You should know be ready to field any curve balls that come your way!

How to stay safe on your first whitewater rafting trip

So, you booked a whitewater rafting trip? Congratulations, you’re about to embark on the most exhilarating trip of a lifetime! I’m sure you did lots of research and found the best outfitter in your area, but now the trip is getting closer and you’re getting a bit nervous. That’s completely normal! Having a bit of anxiety and fear is a good thing when it comes to whitewater rafting, it means that you have respect for the river and the water. More accidents happen when carelessness and inattention comes into play. So, let that fear and anxiety loom, read this article and learn how to best prepare yourself for your first whitewater rafting trip.

Whether you booked a half day or a 6 day trip, you’ll likely get a safety talk at the boat ramp or the launch area, but here are some important tips to remember.

Wear your lifejacket this may seem like a no brainer, but it’s really the simplest way to stay safe while white water rafting. In Idaho, outfitters are required to provide type V pfd’s (personal floatation device) to all guests going whitewater rafting. A type V life jacket refers to the foam density and pounds of floatation, basically it’s the safest type of jacket you can buy! So, once you near the water’s edge be sure that your life jacket is on and it is cinched down snug. So snug, in fact that it’s almost hard to breathe. Sounds a bit mid-evil, but that will ensure that if you jump in the water, your life jacket doesn’t float up and over your head, it needs to stay down around your mid section to do it’s job correctly. Always have your life jacket on when nearing the edge of the water and at all times when in the boat.

Watch your step be careful getting around when on the river bank and especially when getting in and out of the boat. The rocks along the river’s edge are very slippery, so take your time. Low and slow is a motto that our river guides use a lot, walk slowly and crouch down low when the rocks or terrain are particularly treacherous.
Listen to your guide this is especially important when it comes to a paddle boat, in which each person has a paddle. The guide will be calling out commands such as right side, left side, etc. They do this in order to navigate safely through a rapid, avoid rocks and be sure you’re having the most fun possible!

Sit in a recliner if you do happen to fall into the water and you’re nearing a rapid, you’ll want to try to get back to boat as soon as possible. Sometimes it’s not always possible to get back in the boat, you may have to float down river for a bit before being pulled back into the boat. This is OK, remember you have a type V life jacket on that will help keep you afloat, all you need to do is sit back in a la-z-boy recliner position with your feet out in front of you and float down the river. This position helps to ensure that if there are rocks in the river, you’re able to bounce off of them with your feet, rather than your head or bum. You’ll also have a clear view of what’s to come.

Breathe above water another one of those that seems very intuitive and lacks needing to be mentioned, but it really does need to be mentioned. A lot of people will go through an initial shock that they’re in the water and a moment of panic, which can lead to erratic breathing. So, take a big breath when your head is above water and hold it when it’s under water!

Pay attention to your surroundings there are regional threats to watch out for and your guides will fill you in on the specifics, but it could be poison ivy, poison oak, snakes, etc. Just be aware of the land and it’s threats and you’ll be fine.

Above all, have fun! A whitewater rafting trip is the best way to spend a hot summer afternoon, and if you’re lucky enough your planning a multi-day adventure and will be spending 3-6 days out on the river! Enjoy every minute, let the sun kiss your nose, revel in the big whitewater, leave your watch behind, dig your paddle in and live in the moment of being on the river!
